Erawan Shrine

Information

494 Thanon Phloen Chit, Khwaeng Lumphini, Khet Pathum Wan, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10330, Tailandia

The Erawan Shrine - "Shrine of Lord Brahma the Great"- was built in 1956 to ward off the bad luck. It was erected because people thought the location, were the Erawan Hotel was being built, was cursed because workers got hurt, a boat carrying its materials sunk before getting there and the construction got delayed. After the shrine was finished, the curse seemed to be lifted as the construction works could carry on without any other problem.

The Shrine has a statue of Phra Phrom which is the Thai respresentation of Brahma, the Hindu god of creation. Locals and tourists both visit this shrine because it's said to bring good luck, so offerings are constantly made.
