Information

1 ถนน จักรวรรดิ Khwaeng Ban Bat, Khet Pom Prap Sattru Phai, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10100, Tailandia

Wat Saket is a buddhist temple that was built in the Ayutthaya era. It's located on a 80-meter-tall manmade hill known as the Golden Mountain.

An annual temple fair is held in November, called Loy Krathong. It lasts for a week and pilgrims climb up the 300 steps that encircle the chedi.

Its name, Wat Saket, translates to something similar to "wash hair". It was given because it was believed that the king stopped here to take a bath and wash his hair when he was returning from war and before he entered the "inner city".

The temple was the crematorium of the capital and where 60.000 plague victims were dumped in the late 18th century. In fact, at the base of the hill there's a cemetery covered with trees.

INFORMATION

Opening hours: every day from 7:30 to 19:00.
