On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays there's a small market of traditional catalan products. Next to the church there's a nice square with terraces, perfect for a break after La Boquería crowds.
There is nice tour that includes the beautiful Santa María del Pi along with el Gótico neighborhood and Gaudí's Palau Güell.

HISTORY
The Santa María del Pi basilica, documented since 987, is located in the Gothic quarter, in front of the Pine Square. In fact, its name in English would be "Saint Mary of the Pine". It is thought that it was given because an image with the face of the Virgin was found in the trunk of a pine, and because of that a pine was planted in the square.The tree isn't there anymore though.
The basilica was affected by a bombing and an earthquake. But the worst destruction it suffered was in the year 1936, during the Spanish Civil War, when it was burnt intentionally and destroyed almost completely. Its reconstruction was achieved throughout the years, and in 2011 the Museum and Tresure of the basilica was inaugurated.
