Gendarmenmarkt

Carlos says

Summer and winter are two beautiful times to visit this square. During the first there are usually orchestras playing at the Classic Open Air and during the second season there's a beautiful Christmas market.

Information

Gendarmenmarkt 2, 10117 Berlin, Alemania

The Gendarmenmarkt is a square that has a concert house and two church buildings, and in the middle there's a statue of poet Friedrich Schiller. Although the churches are called 'Deutscher Dom'- German Dome- and 'Französischer Dom' - French Dome-, with 'Dom' in German meaning 'Cathedral', neither of them are cathedrals. They got their name because of their huge domes. Both churches have exhibitions and a museum now, and the French Dome still offers church services and concerts.

During the Second World War the square and its buildings were completely damaged and it was rebuilt in the '70s by the East Berlin Government.
