The Royal Grand Palace was once the residence of the Thai King (from 1782 until the beginning of the 20th century) and it used to also be the Royal court and administrative seat of government. Nowadays, the complex can be visited and it's still used for some important ceremonies.
The Palace complex consists of several temples, gardens, buildings and courtyards. Probably the most famous one is Wat Phra Kaew, the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, which is home to a figure of seated Buddha made from jade and dressed in gold. It that dates all the way back to the 14th century.
Some other well-known buildings of the complex are: the Coronation Throne Hall, the Royal Funeral Hall, the Royal Reception Hall, the Golden Chedi and the Royal Pantheon.
