The Fernsehturm tower was built between 1965 and 1969 by the government of East Germany, the German Democratic Republic. It was built as a symbol of Berlin and the Communist power, but nowadays it's only a symbol of the city.
It's 368 metres high, making it the tallest structure of Germany. It functions as a broadcasting station of radio and television and as an observation tower, with a viewing deck, a bar and a rotating restaurant at 203 metres.
