The Bellevue Palace is an Early Neoclassical building that was commissioned by Prince August Ferdinand of Prussia in 1785. It has a simplistic design but it stood out due to its landscape gardens. In the beginning, the building was used by Frederick the Great's brother as a residence and it wasn't open to the public.
From 1844, and for 21 years, the ground floor of the palace exhibited contemporary Prussian works and public was allowed to visit the palace gardens. It was later used as housing for the Prussian imperial court and finally, with Germany's reunification, the Bundespräsident moved to Berlin permanently in 1994.
