Reichstag
Information
Reichstagsgebäude, Platz der Republik 1, 10557 Berlin, Alemania
The Reichstag is the home of the German Parliament. The original building was designed by Paul Wallot after the Memorial Hall in Philadelphia, and it was completed in 1894. However, its famous dedication located in the facade, Dem Deuschen Volke meaning 'to the German People', was inscribed in 1916.
The Reichstag was the home of the German parliament until 1933, when it was burnt by a fire, and since then it was neglected and damaged all through the Second World War. A partial renovation was undertaken in 1961 during the Cold War and in 1990 it was the site of the ceremony of the official reunification.
It was designated the home of the German Parliament, once again, in 1991 and it went through complete restoration between 1995 and 1999.
