The Louvre is the most famous museum of Paris and the biggest museum of art and historic monuments of the world. The collections have over 38,000 objects from prehistory to the 21st century, and it's divided in categories such as Egyptian antiquities, Islamic art, decorative arts, sculptures and much more. Pieces such as the Mona Lisa and the Venus of Milo can be found here.
The building used to be a Louvre castle and in the basement of the museum there are remainings of the fortress. It opened as a museum in 1793.

Monday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday: 9 a.m.–6 p.m.
Tuesday: Closed.
Wednesday and Friday: 9 a.m.–9:45 p.m.
Rooms begin closing at 5:30 p.m., and at 9:30 p.m. on night openings.
