Old Jewish Cemetery - Starý židovský hřbitov

Information

U Starého hřbitova 248/3, Josefov, 110 00 Praha-Praha 1, Chequia

The Old Jewish Cemetery was used from the 15th Century until 1787. Its oldest grave dates from before 1439 and it belongs to Avigdor Kara.

There's no certainty of the number of people buried here because there are several layers of graves, but its estimated that approx. 12.000 tombs lay there, with more than 100.000 Jews.

Some famous personalities were buried here,  like Mordecai Maisel (1601), Rabbi Judah Loew (1609), David Gans (1613) and David Oppenheim (1736).
