Christian says
It's alway full of people, but I wouldn't recommend going there on the last Sunday of the month because it gets too crowded.
Information
Palazzo della Canonica, 00120 Città del Vaticano, Cdad. del Vaticano
The Vatican Museums exhibit a huge collection of art accumulated by Popes throughout the years. It contains approx. 70.000 works of art, but only 20.000 are on display. However, some of the most famous classical sculptures and some of the most important pieces of Renaissance art are exhibitied there.
They're located in the Vatican City and they date back to 1503, when Pope Julius II donated his private collection. Since then, other popes and private families have donated their works of art, making it one of the largest collections in the world.
One of the most famous parts of the Museums is the Sistine Chapel, mostly because of its frescos on the ceiling and Michelangelo's The Last Judgement.
