The Santa Justa Lift is an elevator that takes passengers up a hill from the Baixa neighbourhood to Largo do Carmo and the ruins of what used to be the Carmo church. It's used both as a mean of transportation for locals and as a tourist attraction, because at the top of the lift there's an observation platform with panoramic views of the historical centre of Lisbon.

It dates back to the 19th century. The structure is made of wrought-iron and adorned with neo-gothic arches and patterns and the two carriages are made of polished wood.

Price: Return ticket: €5.15

Included in the price is the cost of the entrance to the observation platform which is €1.50

Opening hours: May to October from 7:00 to 23:00.

November to April from 7:00 to 22:00.
