The Oculus is the main transport station in the World Trade Center area. It opened its doors on March 4th, 2016, and it was built to replace the train station that was there before the terrorist attacks of 2001.
The architect that created it, spanish Santiago Calatrava, tried to simulate the shape of a white dove starting to fly, in honor to the victims of those attacks. However, the structure generates controversy because many people think it looks more like a skeleton.
The Oculus also has a shopping mall below that structure, with two floors of shops and restaurants, which allows to admire its architecture from the inside.
