This Island was the entrance door to the US for over 12 million immigrants from the year 1892 to 1954. Those immigrants account for half of the population of the country in the present.
Nowadays, there's a museum in the Main building that exhibits the life of many of those immigrants and what they had to go through.
INFORMATION
Price: the entrance is free with the ticket of the Ferry boat. The only way to get to the island is by this ferry.
Opening hours: every day except for the 25th of December.
The first ferry departs around 8.30 / 9:00 am and the last ferry leaves the island at 17:15 / 18:00.
