Monument

Roman Forum

Information

Via della Salara Vecchia, 5/6, 00186 Roma RM, Italia

The Roman Forum used to be what central squares in cities are today: the city center, where the government has its institutions, markets and important religious buildings.

When the Roman Empire fell, the Forum started to be buried under the earth and it wasn't until the 20th century that excavations were carried out in this area.

The site where it was built used to be a swamp, but it was drained by means of the Cloaca Maxima in the 6th century B.C.
