Meiji Shrine - Meiji Jingu

Information

Unnamed Road, 1 Yoyogikamizonochō, Shibuya City, Tōkyō-to 151-0052, Japón

The Meiji Shrine is one of the most important shrines in Tokyo. It was completed in 1920 and it was dedicated to the deified spirits of Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken. In its grounds there's a forest that has over 100.000 trees, which gives the area an air of tranquility compared to the hustle and bustle of the city.

There are two parts of the Shrine that stand out: the Treasure House, which exhibits personal belongings of the Emperor and Empress like a carriage, and the Inner Garden, which includes a well called 'Kiyomasa's Well' that was dug around 400 years ago.

The shrine was destroyed during the Second World War, so it had to be rebuilt.

Opening hours: from sunrise to sunset.

The Inner Garden opens every day from 9:00 to 16:30. Admission ends 30 minutes before closing.

From November to February: every day from 9:00 to 16:00.

Price: Free admission to the grounds of the temple. A fee is paid just for the Inner Garden, which is 500 yens.
