Plaça del Rei
Charles says
One of my favorite squares in Barcelona. At night the place is magical and sometimes there's live music on one of the corners. Great to chill out in the only terrace of the square. The Sculpture was made by the famous basquian artist Chillida.

HISTORY
The Plaça del Rei -in English "King's Square"- is located in the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona, and it's surrounded by buildings of Gothic and Renaissance style. It's near the Palau Reial Major -in English the "Great Royal Palace"- and throughout the years it had different functions, such as a market or a bullfight. In the stairs that are in the square, and that lead to the entrance of the Palace, King Fernando II of Aragón suffered an assassination attempt.
From the square visitors can also see the Santa Ágata Royal chapel, the Palace of the Lieutenant, that hosts the Archive of the Aragón Crown and has a Renaissance styled yard, and the House Clariana-Padellàs, that hosts a part of the History Museum of the city in which archeological remains from the roman times can be found.
