HISTORY
The Plaza Real -in English Royal Square- is located in the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona, on the side of Las Ramblas. The name of the square was given because a statue of the king at that time, Fernando VII, was supposed to be placed in the middle of it to honor the monarchy.
It's a public square, and on its sides there are porches with bars, restaurants and some night clubs. The form of the Plaza Real isn't square, it's trapezoidal, and it has royal palm trees. The streetlights were designed by architect Antoni Gaudí and the fountain by Antoine Durenne.
