Viewpoint
Plaça de Catalunya
Charles says
Barcelonians consider this square the center of the city. From here you'll start an itinerary through the streets of Gótico. If you wih to go beyond the main attractions, avoid the tourist traps and find some local gems, have a look to the Gothic quarter in Deep Guide
Many Gótico & Gaudí tours start here. Have a look to the Best of Gaudí or Half day Tailored options which I recommend below.

Plaza de Cataluña, 9999, 08002 Barcelona, España
HISTORY
Plaça de Catalunya is considered the heart of Barcelona because it's where the districts of Ciutat Vella and Eixample meet. It was inaugurated in 1927 by King Alfonso XIII and it's currently surrounded by shopping malls, hotels and financial institutions.
The square has five hectares, lots of sculptures from well-known artists in Spain and two water fountains. It's a meeting point for locals and tourists because of its strategic location in the city, and because it's one of the most important transport spots, with metro lines, trains and buses.
