Plaça de Sant Felip Neri
Charles says
One of my favorite squares in the Gótico neighborhood. If you can come back at night, the lights are beautiful and there will be almost no one.
Information
Plaça de Sant Felip Neri, 4-6, 08002 Barcelona, España
HISTORY
The Sant Felip Neri square is located in the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona, built over what was once the Montjuic of the Bishop cemetery. It's surrounded by houses with Renaissance style and there's an octogonal water fountain in the center.
This square became important because of what happened during the Civil War, in the year 1938: a plane threw a bomb and it exploided causing forty two deaths. The majority were children who were hiding in the church. Traces of that explosion can still be seen on the walls of the buildings, mostly on the ones of the church of the square.
In Sant Felip Neri square visitors can also find the Shoe Museum and the building that once held the coppersmiths' guilds.
