Information
Westminster Abbey, Westminster, London SW1P 3PA, Reino Unido
The Westminster Abbey is one of the most famous churches in the world. It has Gothic style and it went through many transformations during its existence, being a Benedictine monastery in the beginning.
The Abbey is the place in which all the coronations of British monarchs and many royal weddings have taken place since the 11th century. The coronations are done in the Coronation Chair, made with the Stone of Destiny, since 1308.
It houses the tombs of some famous people, including writers, scientists, British kings and queens. There's a Poet's Corner, which has the tombs of Charles Dickens, Geoffrey Chaucer and Rudyard Kipling, between others; there's also the grave of the Unknown Warrior that honours the sacrifice of the people who died during the First World War, and there's a sanctuary dedicated to writers such as Emily Brontë, T.S. Eliot, Oscar Wilde and Jane Austen.
